RAUTENHAUS

“Here is the address” was the simple yet open brief to document KPT Architekten’s Rautenhaus (Rhombus House). Left to my interpretation – a challenge I like to embrace – I assembled ideas and planned a narrative to recite. The set of sequenced images encompasses two prominent themes that characterise the architecture: The geometric forms that extend to the garden design and the pronounced sense of connection to the surrounding nature. With these in mind, I aimed to portray the environmental context of the structure and the relationship to nature as experienced from the spaces inside.

I use drones in my photography work whenever necessary. A drone is essential to attain some perspectives that are otherwise impossible to get. Other times to help show the building in its broader context. In the case of this shoot, I wanted to capture the geometric shapes of the house and the garden design, demonstrated best from the air. The aerial perspectives also set the scene, placing the house in the beautiful surrounding landscape.

The photo documentation of Rautenhaus won the 2023 Architecture MasterPrize Photography Award in the Residential Category.
